Whalesong Cafe & Campground, Dampier Peninsula, Western Australia
We arrive early evening at Whalesong Cafe and receive a warm welcome from Jacinta, who with her partner, own the Whalesong Cafe and campground.
There are just five camping spots here and we share the very large #5 campsite with our friends who arrived half an hour before us.
We light a campfire, enjoy a delicious dinner and go to bed to the sound of the waves. It isn’t until next morning we realise what a beautiful spot we have ended up in – our campsite is right above the beach with lovely views of Pender Bay and the sunrise is gorgeous.
Silent Grove Campground, Kimberley, Western Australia
Silent Grove Campground is in the King Leopold Range Conservation Park. It is the closest campground to Bell Gorge – a popular place to visit along the Gibb River Road.
This is a self-registration campsite and after completing our details and placing the correct money in the envelope, we choose a shady site. There are not too many campers here at the moment but it is quite a small campground so we ‘save’ our spot before driving 10kms down the road to do the Bell Gorge walk.
The campsite has two bathroom blocks (one for men and one for women) with solar hot water showers. There are three showers in each block, a long bench but no hand basins or mirrors, just a tap at the entrance. Flushing toilet cubicles are scattered throughout the campsite.
There are round fire-pits and taps throughout the campsite.
There are no facilities for rubbish here and we must take it out of the park with us.
Silent Grove Campground is a very pleasant spot and very convenient to beautiful Bell Gorge.

Kimberley Entrance Caravan Park, Derby, Western Australia
This holiday park is very impressive. It is immaculately kept and very clean. The ‘streets’ of the park are lined with trees as are most of the campsites.
We have site #169 towards the back of the park – plenty of space.
There are two amenity blocks – the one closest to us is very modern inside, clean and spacious. There is a long mirror above the basins and soap dispensers.
The men are on one side of the block and the women on the other, with a laundry area in between the two. The other amenities block has the same set up.
The camp kitchen is located in the same building as Reception at the front of the Park. There are tables and chairs, BBQ, cooktop, toasters, microwave and washing up basin.
During our visit, Outback Paddy (songwriter, guitarist, singer) performs.
This is an excellent caravan park and highly recommended.

El Questro Station, Kimberley, Western Australia
El Questro is our first stop on a trip along the Gibb River Road and it certainly sets the standard for our Kimberley adventure.
The views along this first section of the Gibb are beautiful. We are still on bitumen out to the El Questro turnoff, then it’s 16kms of unsealed road to El Questro Station where we have booked a Garden View Room for two nights.
Wirib Tourism Park, Timber Creek, Northern Territory
It is a beautiful drive of about 4 hours between Katherine and the tiny settlement of Timber Creek. It is a good place to break our trip on the way to Lake Argyle.
Wirib Tourism Park is a little oasis. We check in at the IGA with the friendly fellow at the front of the store, drive into the park and see lovely green, grassy campsites. We have a powered site.
Ibis Styles, Katherine
The Ibis Styles is 3-star older-style motel accommodation (part of the Accor Group) located a short distance from the centre of Katherine.
We stayed one night here after camping in Kakadu National Park. We found the staff very friendly and were able to get a good rate that included a continental breakfast.
