Longreach Motor Inn, Longreach, Queensland

Room 31, Longreach Motor InnOn a recent trip to Longreach, we stayed at the Longreach Motor Inn, a very large motel on two levels. We booked into Room 31, a family room with two rooms and a bathroom, on the upper level.

It was a comfortable room with plenty of space.

In the main room there were twin beds with bedside tables, a couple of luggage shelves and wardrobe.

In that room there was also a long bench/desk with bar-sized fridge, tea-making facilities, a microwave, television and air-conditioning system. A sliding door opened onto a small balcony where there was a small table and 2 chairs.

Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel, Sandton, Johannesburg

Radisson Blu Guatrain, SandtonAfter a long day’s drive, we arrived in Johannesburg to check into the lovely Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel.

Reception is located on the 3rd floor, accessible by lift from either the underground car park or the street level entrance (which is where the Concierge Desk is located).

On check in, the type of room (a double room) we had booked was not available so we were kindly upgraded to a Business Class Room – Room 402 – a spacious room and bathroom on the 4th floor.

41 on Market, Vryburg, South Africa

Room 1, 41 on Market

Room 1

On a recent road trip in South Africa, we had intended to stay at Mokala Game Reserve near Kimberly however taking a wrong turn meant having to change plans and look for accommodation in Vryburg late in the afternoon on a Wednesday evening in September. Who would have thought that the B&Bs we phoned would all be full? There was a car rally in town on the weekend and guests had arrived early in the week and it seemed the whole town was fully booked.

But then we tried 41 on Market – success. We were able to book a double room.

41 on Market has only been opened about 12 months so everything is clean and new. It occupies a renovated older-style building with large rooms, high ceilings and big windows in the main street of Vryburg.

Augrabies Falls National Park Rest Camp

Augrabies Falls

Augrabies Falls

The rest camp at Augrabies Falls National Park is just 3 kms from the main gate.

We drove to the Reception building for a quick and easy check-in. This building also houses the Quiver Tree Restaurant and the Curio & Retail Shop. There are also numerous information boards showing photographs of the Falls in flood, and interesting points about the Park.

We booked into Chalet 25 – very conveniently located close to the main building.

Seeing the wildflowers in the Northern Cape had been on our ‘to do’ list for years, and we finally had the opportunity to make the trip in August 2015. While in Springbok, we chose to stay at the Kliprand Guesthouse.

On arrival we received a warm welcome and were shown to our room – Room 4 at the side of the house – a good-sized bedroom with a very large bathroom.

Melkboomsdrift Guest Lodge, Vredendal, Western Cape, South Africa

Melkboomsdrift Guest Lodge

Melkboomsdrift Guest Lodge

We received a warm welcome on arrival at Melkboomsdrift Guest Lodge and were pleasantly surprised when booking into this charming guesthouse located on the banks of the Olifant’s River, surrounded by vineyards with beautiful views of the countryside.

The homestead and outbuildings, which date back to 1820, have been painstakingly restored to provide very comfortable and charming accommodation. Reception is located in the original homestead while most of the accommodation is provided in the restored outbuildings with the names of each suite indicating their use in times gone by – they were once stables, milling rooms, a cowshed, milking room, wine cellar, harness room and as the local school. We stayed in “Die Skooltjie” (little schoolhouse).
