Kliprand Guesthouse

Kliprand Guesthouse

Seeing the wildflowers in the Northern Cape had been on our ‘to do’ list for years, and we finally had the opportunity to make the trip in August 2015. While in Springbok, we chose to stay at the Kliprand Guesthouse.

On arrival we received a warm welcome and were shown to our room – Room 4 at the side of the house – a good-sized bedroom with a very large bathroom.

Melkboomsdrift Guest Lodge, Vredendal, Western Cape, South Africa

Melkboomsdrift Guest Lodge

Melkboomsdrift Guest Lodge

We received a warm welcome on arrival at Melkboomsdrift Guest Lodge and were pleasantly surprised when booking into this charming guesthouse located on the banks of the Olifant’s River, surrounded by vineyards with beautiful views of the countryside.

The homestead and outbuildings, which date back to 1820, have been painstakingly restored to provide very comfortable and charming accommodation. Reception is located in the original homestead while most of the accommodation is provided in the restored outbuildings with the names of each suite indicating their use in times gone by – they were once stables, milling rooms, a cowshed, milking room, wine cellar, harness room and as the local school. We stayed in “Die Skooltjie” (little schoolhouse).

Quest Apartments Waterfront, Hobart, Tasmania

Room 33

Room 33

Quest Apartments Waterfront has an excellent location at Sullivan’s Cove – Hobart’s waterfront area. There are great restaurants nearby and the MONA ferry is moments away.

After a friendly check in at Reception, we took the lift to our apartment – Room 33. While not huge, there was plenty of space, it was very comfortable and had good facilities. The apartment was one room combining bedroom/living room/kitchenette plus separate bathroom. Facilities included microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, air-conditioning, television, table and two chairs.

Cradle Mountain Lodge, Tasmania

During a trip to Tasmania in Winter, we drove from Launceston airport to Cradle Mountain (about a 2.5 hour drive) and booked into beautiful Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge where it had been snowing. We chose to stay in one of the Pencil Pine Cabins and loved it – very comfortable and warm.

After a friendly check-in at Reception in the main lodge building, we drove a very short distance across to our cabin and were able to park close by which was handy for transferring the luggage.

Hotel Villa Milas, Mostar, Bosnia

Hotel Villa Milas is a small, family run hotel of 16 rooms that opened last year – in May 2014*. The location is excellent as it is only a few minutes walk from Mostar’s Old Town.

On arrival we received a very warm welcome. It was a hot day – 34 degrees – and we were offered refreshing cool drinks – a choice of either pomegranate or elderflower. As we sipped our drinks the staff were most helpful with information about Mostar. They gave us maps and made suggestions of places to visit.

Villa Bon Vivant, Mlini – Dubrovnik

Villa Bon VivantWhen visiting Dubrovnik, we stayed at Villa Bon Vivant, on the coast at Mlini – about a 15-minute drive from Dubrovnik.

We were on a self-drive trip and had been advised that parking was difficult to come by at Dubrovnik and it was a good idea not to stay in the city itself.

We booked Villa Bon Vivant as it was a short ferry ride into Dubrovnik.

Arriving in Mlini, it was difficult to find our accommodation – it was down a steep driveway that was a bit daunting at first but we soon got used to it.

Hotel Liburna, Korcula, Croatia

We felt very fortunate to be staying at Hotel Liburna (now known as Aminess Liburna Hotel) – it was one of the most modern hotels on Korcula, in a great location, a short walk to the Old Town and with lovely views.

On arrival by car, we followed signs to Hotel Liburna and arrived at the back of the hotel where there was a carpark.

The hotel looked new, and checking in at Reception, we were told it had only opened to guests about 10 days prior, after being totally renovated.
