The Kimball, Salt Lake City, Utah

The Kimball Salt Lake CityThe Kimball has an excellent location – about 10 minutes walk from Temple Square and the central shopping area of Salt Lake City – City Creek.

On checking in, the staff at Reception are very friendly and helpful.

Room 347
We are in Room 347 and on entering wonder where the bed is! We quickly realise it is in the wall – it is a pull down bed.

On entering our room, it seems we are walking into a living room – there is a sofa plus single armchair and the TV is on the wall. The large timber panel we see on the wall as we enter is the pull down bed.

Antler Inn, Jackson, Wyoming

Antler Inn, JacksonAfter a long day on the road we were glad to reach the Antler Inn located in the pretty downtown historic centre of Jackson.

We received a warm welcome and were kindly upgraded to a King Room – Room 156 – upstairs on the top level of a 2-storey building, one of three buildings that make up the motel. The property is well cared for and the flowering hanging baskets were a pretty touch.

We were able to park our car in front of the steps to our room.

Canyon Lodge, Yellowstone National Park

Canyon LodgeCanyon Lodge is a collection of several lodges and cabins in the centre of Yellowstone National Park. When booking, we mistakenly thought it was one lodge.

The Registration Office (i.e. Reception for check in) was located in Washburn Lodge. Check-in was an impersonal experience – we showed ID, left credit card details and received a key to our room plus map to find our lodge. We were allocated Room 4315 in Moran Lodge (one of seven accommodation lodges). We asked about meals and were told that the Dining Room was fully booked however we might get a cancellation. We were shown a map of where the dining precinct was – it was called Canyon Lodge.

Roosevelt Lodge, Yellowstone National Park, USA

Roosevelt LodgeRoosevelt Lodge is located on the edge of the beautiful Lamar Valley in the northeast of Yellowstone National Park.

Our stay at Roosevelt Lodge was a wonderful experience.

On arrival we were warmly greeted at Reception, which is in the charming historic Roosevelt Lodge ‘log cabin’ building.

The Lodge building included the dining room, small bar and gift shop, plus informal lounge area in front of the fire. Accommodation is provided in small timber cabins among the trees, close to the Lodge.

La Quinta Inn & Suites, Butte, Montana, USA

La Quinta Inn ButteOn a road trip from Seattle to Yellowstone National Park, we broke our trip in Butte, Montana for one night. Butte was a mining town from the 1860s to 1983 – best known for copper mining. It has an interesting historic district as well as the newer town – where most of the accommodation is located.

We arrived quite late in the evening to check in to La Quinta Inn & Suites and received a warm welcome at Reception.

La Quinta Inn & Suites is located in the newer area of town.

Quality Inn, Selah, Washington

Selah is a small town in the Yakima Valley, Washington – where we chose to break our trip when driving from Seattle to Yellowstone National Park.

The Quality Inn appeared to be the best place to stay in this small town.

The Quality Inn Selah is an attractive, two-storey building in a quiet area a few minutes drive from Selah’s main street.

Star Princess Alaska Cruise – Cabin L242

Balcony Suite, Star PrincessIn May 2018 we did a wonderful 7-day Star Princess Alaskan cruise through the Inside Passage. This was part of a self-drive trip through Alaska and several USA National Parks and after much research, we decided that a one-way cruise from Whittier (Alaska) to Vancouver (Canada) through the Inside Passage was the best way to travel this leg of the trip.

We are usually independent travellers and were a bit hesitant about taking a cruise, however we were very pleasantly surprised!
