Hvammur Apartments is located in the pretty harbour town of Hofn.
We have booked the private 2-bedroom apartment on the top floor of a small apartment building just near the harbour.
There are two entrances to the apartments. The first entrance is on the harbour side of the building, up a flight of steps to the individual rooms that have shared bathroom facilities. The second entrance is just to our private apartment – at the back of the building on the top street – we park here and have level access to our apartment.
The apartment has a large living area with a small balcony that overlooks the harbour. It is quite old-fashioned in decor.
The kitchen is timber and has the usual amenities – stove, oven, fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave. There is a dining table in the kitchen for 4 people.
There are two bedrooms each with a sloping roof and twin beds. The first room has a little desk and wardrobe. The second has a wardrobe and window overlooking the harbour.
The bathroom is quite large (in one corner it looks as though a washing machine and dryer have been removed and just the bench top remains). There is a bath and a separate shower.
For dinner we strolled across to the Pakkhus Restaurant – a very plain looking building from the outside but when we entered – what a surprise! It was warm and inviting – a lovely timber dining room made from recycled timber. There was an excellent menu, very friendly staff and delicious food! We can highly recommend this restaurant.
If self catering, there is an excellent supermarket in Hofn.
We spent just one night at Hvammur Apartments during our tour of Iceland. It was a convenient place to spend our third night along the Ring Road.
